The 1873 Silver Three Cent Piece (Buy on eBay) represented the final year of issue for the series. This date was struck in proof format only with an original mintage of 600 pieces. All of these are of the closed 3 variety, unlike many of the other denominations, which were also restruck with the open 3 date punch on the obverse.
While not as difficult to find as some of the lower mintage business strikes, demand is relatively high making the issue somewhat difficult to find. Virtually all examples have survived in choice condition although finding attractive, original pieces in high-grade can be a challenge.
