1873 Proof Three Cent Silver Piece

The 1873 Three Cent Silver Piece represented the final year of issue for the series. This date was struck in proof format only with an original mintage of 600 pieces. All of these are of the closed 3 variety, unlike many of the other denominations, which were also (re)struck with the open 3 date punch on the obverse.

While not as difficult to find as some of the lower mintage business strikes, demand is relatively high making the issue somewhat difficult to find. Virtually all examples have survived in choice condition although finding attractive, original pieces in high-grade can take a considerable amount of time and money.
